About Al Mishkah

It started with one simple question

We are native Arabic speakers who grew up learning Arabic, Qur’an and Islamic studies. As parents, we found ourselves doing the same with our own children, each in our own way.

We were already spending time teaching our children, sharing what we had learned and trying to give them the same connection to Arabic and Islam that we had growing up.

Then we asked ourselves:

Why are we all doing this separately? Why not create a place where our children can learn together?

That simple question was the beginning of Al Mishkah Arabic School.

Why Al Mishkah?

Al Mishkah (المشكاة) is an Arabic word referring to a niche or recess in a wall where a lamp is placed. The word is mentioned in the Qur’an in Surah An-Nur, in the Verse of Light.

For us, the name represents the role we hope to play in our children’s lives: creating a place where knowledge can grow and where the light of Arabic, Qur’an and Islamic learning can be passed on to the next generation.

What we hope to build

Al Mishkah brings Arabic, Qur’an and Islamic studies together in one welcoming weekend school.

We want children to enjoy learning, grow in confidence and build a lasting connection with their language, Qur’an and faith.

Most importantly, we want Al Mishkah to feel like a community. A place where children know their teachers, parents feel involved, and families can learn and grow together.
